GEAR UP Alliance 2011 Institute for a College-Going Culture: Drive the dream Gear Up History President Clinton’s administration, year Federal grant designed to promote an increase in the number of students who enter Monies granted to Gear Up schools are used in Awareness, Access, Engagement, Support and Rigor components Extended through Congress and we are on our 2 nd 5 years

GEAR UP Alliance 2011 Institute for a College-Going Culture: Drive the dream Gear Up Facts Provides low income students with greater access to postsecondary education Serves an entire cohort of students from 7 th through 12 th grade Funding based on number of students Seven Project Associates across the state and numerous site coordinators in the schools College Coaches-added support to Gear Up Kentucky program this year

GEAR UP Alliance 2011 Institute for a College-Going Culture: Drive the dream Access Providing students with opportunities to tour a variety of post secondary institutions when possible.

GEAR UP Alliance 2011 Institute for a College-Going Culture: Drive the dream Rigor Promoting higher level thinking skills Creating academic opportunities that are engaging and focus on college bound levels and higher level classes. Professional staff development opportunities that are content specific and promote higher level thinking skills and problem solving Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, etc.
