As A Child Seamus Heaney was born in Derry His father was Patrick Heaney. He was a farmer. His mother was Margaret McCann. He was the oldest child in his family. He went to school in Anahorish Primary School. When he was 12 years old he won a scholarship to St. Columb’s College, a Catholic school.

Blackberry Picking Heaney wrote wonderful poems and used many well known poetry technique such as alliteration like “fruit fermented.” “The juice was stinking too. Once of the bush the fruit fermented,the sweet flesh would turn sour. I always felt like crying it wasn’t fair That all the lovely canfuls smelt of rot. Each year I hoped they would keep new they would not.”

Awards Seamus Heaney has won many awards. Some of them are very important awards. His most impressive awards are The Nobel Prize in literature, The Griffin Trust for Excellence in Poetry Lifetime Recognition Award, The Golden Wreath of Poetry and E.M. Forster Award.

Heaney – leaving us Seamus Heaney died on August 30 th in Dublin and his funeral mass was in Donnybrook Church Many consider him the successor to Yeats our famous Irish poet. He will be remembered for his poems and being a great teacher. His last words were “Noli timere” which is Latin for “Don’t be afraid”
