The Human Heart

Diagram of the Heart

Chambers of the heart The heart has four chambers or parts. These are called: The heart has four chambers or parts. These are called: Right atrium Right ventricle Left atrium Left ventricle

Blood Vessels Veins are tubes which bring blood without oxygen into the heart. Veins are tubes which bring blood without oxygen into the heart. Arteries are tubes which take blood with oxygen away from the heart and bring it all around the body. Arteries are tubes which take blood with oxygen away from the heart and bring it all around the body. Together they are called blood vessels. Together they are called blood vessels.

How the Heart Works 1. Blood without oxygen comes into the heart through a vein. 2. It goes into the first chamber called the right atrium. 3. It then goes through an opening called a valve into the right ventricle. 4. From there it is pumped to the lungs to collect some oxygen.

Going into the Heart Blood without oxygen Off to the lungs we go! 1 2 3

How the Heart Works 1. Blood with oxygen comes back to the heart from the lungs. 2. It goes into the left atrium. 3. It then goes through an opening called a valve into the left ventricle. 4. From there it is pumped away from the heart and all around the body through a very special artery called the aorta.
