Presentation transcript:

 Location: Caribbean/ North America (British Territory)  Climate: Tropical  Culture: It has a unique blend of Anglo-Irish, British, and African cultures and it is the blend of two very different cultures and races. Most people in Montserrat are Christian or Catholics.  Language: English  Population: 5,097 (2009)

 Sex Ratio:  At Birth: 1.03  Under 15 years: 1.08  15-64:.92  Total population: 1.01  Birth Rate: 12.36/1000 population  Death Rate: 3.44/1000 population  Fertility Rate: 1.23 (2009)  Growth Rate:.392%

 Solutions used by government:  The UK launched a 3 year $122.8 million aid program to help reconstruct the economy  DFID(British’s Department for International Development) provided assistance to Montserrat since the beginning for the volcanic eruption - This includes budgetary aid, technical assistance and funding for capital projects  DFID even developed a new plan to cover the five-year period !  Solutions we think will work:  Focus on building new housing for residents who are still affected by the eruption  Try to clean up the environment and make the soil and plants healthier to plant more crops which can help strengthen the economy

 Montserrat’s volcano destroyed everything in half the island. There are almost no inhabitants living in half of the island. There is no farming going on anymore. Because of its small size, there is no deforestation or major environmental problems, but nature took its toll.

 Even though Montserrat is British territory they are their own country. Like said before they have a unique mixture of races and religions through out the country. The biggest problem that affected this country was the volcanic eruption of 1995 from the Soufriere Hills volcano which affect the country economically, socially and agriculturally in the past as well as in today’s time *FUN FACT *  Columbus named Montserrat after the mountains in Barcelona, Spain!
