Common Core State Standards The CCSS modules provide an introduction to the California Common Core Standards that address literacy in science.  integration of literacy  strategies for reading informational text  argumentative writing in science

Formative Assessment Teachers learn how to adapt instruction on the basis of evidence, making changes and improvements to their curriculum and instruction based on analysis of their students work.  Probes  Performance tasks  Pre-assessments

Inquiry These modules are design to have participants learn strategies for developing inquiry-based teaching and learning.  Integration of Science Practices  Modifications for Inquiry

Workshop 1 (July 8-12) Teacher Leadership & IC Development for Alumni Teachers Continued preparation in discipline specific content and activities related to your grade level from CSU science faculty. Learn more advance methods for integrating science practices, NGSS and Common Core into curriculum, teaching and assessments. Develop district leadership skills. Teachers will also select one strand related to Professional Development, Facilitation, or Instructional case development. Summer Institute 2013

Workshop 2 (July 12-19) Integrating Inquiry and Science Practices, Common Core & Science Literacy, and Assessing Inquiry Strands Receive preparation and lessons in discipline specific content related to your grade level from CSU faculty Work in collaborative content specific teams with district colleagues (Cohort 1 & 2) to examine IMSS instructional unit and how to integrate science practices and NGSS. Integrate science practices, NGSS and Common Core into curriculum, teaching and assessments. Teachers will selection one pedagogy strand to advance understanding.
