WASTE REDUCTION AND RECYCLING Carly Kupka & Melodi Yanik

What is Roseland talking about? WASTE! From 1960 to 2009, there has been a 62% increase in per capita waste = 4.34 pounds a day

What is Roseland talking about? The Waste Hierarchy Rethink!

Landfill and Energy Recovery Leachate monitoring Leachate = Water that has been in contact with waste (rainwater) Landfill gas recovery ½ Methane, ½ Carbon Dioxide = lots of greenhouse gases! Last year produced 2.5 million kilowatts. One light bulb is 60 kilowatts. That’s 41,667 light blubs. Each house has 30 light bulbs (?) That’s almost 1400 homes a year.

Composting Businesses cooperate with the public. OSU Extension Free composting workshop, free master gardener course ! Love Food Not Waste Supplies bins. Collected 2244 tons to date..

Composting

Recycling: What is the City of Eugene doing? Master Recycler program Partnership with BRING, NextStep, and Wheels for Wishes. Ban on plastic bags. Bottle rebate.
