For brownies this PowerPoint will help you understand computer viruses and help stop them!!!!

Viruses A computer virus is not the same as an illness in the body, it is like an illness in the computer. It can appear as anything, such as you are the 1,000,000 visitor to this sight I love you Trojan horse and many hidden viruses that are unexpected everyone may be at risk, even you …. A virus can be anything from s they state they are from your friends to WebPages on the internet. They can be received at any time, any where, to any computer. WHAT CAN THEY DO? The virus will not make your computer explode or ruin your computer, but it can attack and destroy some files or see some things you are doing, like seeing a password. Different viruses cause different effects, it depends who made them and what viruses they are.

Being carefulBeing carefulBeing carefulBeing careful You can be careful and stop your computer from receiving a virus. How? Well, firstly you will need an adult to help you. You should do this to all of the computers to stop all viruses if possible. Start with the first computer. Research some anti viral software with your trusted adult, maybe your mum, dad or older brother and sister. If you know somebody in your family who knows a good form of software, ask them. Some viruses hide themselves in software, so be careful. When you find a good one, install it. Hopefully it will work. Remember to backup your files just in case. Always make sure you ask an adult first. If you cannot be sure which one to choose, go to an electronic store and ask for help.

If you need to know more, ask brown owl to help you find some websites that will help you. Just remember if you open a virus, it can damage your files. viruses can spread to all of your friends, so if you are unsure ask your parents. You have learnt what a virus is what types of viruses there are what viruses do how to stop viruses use these websites for more help GOOGLE wikipedia ‘computer virus’ GOOGLE what can a virus do?

REMEMBERREMEMBERREMEMBERREMEMBER NEVER OPEN ANYTHING THAT MIGHT BE A VIRUS! THANKS FOR WATCHING now on to hacking

HACKING So what is hacking?

HACKING hacking is very bad. You may not know but using someone else's password on a computer is hacking. Hacking is unauthorised use of computer and network resources this means somebody is entering without permission or the person allowing them to enter. Hackers can get through by s, or looking in on peoples passwords by spying. You may not realise but you could be a hacker if you look at others files on the computer without them letting you if you don’t want someone to guess your password choose a complicated one with numbers, capitals, lower case. Don’t choose a name of a sibling, pet or a birthday because these are most commonly guessed.

Stop hackers Hackers like computers that are connected to the internet, they are easier to access. So close the internet when you have finished. Use firewalls!

What to do if you suspect a hacker Tell an adult and they can sort it out. It can be easy for your computer to be accessed, so get a firewall. Some of your files may unfortunately be changed. Don’t worry!

What do they do???? So, hackers, as popularly defined, are computer experts who spend enormous amounts of time trying to hack into the security of networks, Web servers and servers. Usually they use a selection of specialist software to identify weaknesses. Most do it for fun and as a challenge. They're not interested in attacking private individuals. It's the big companies and authorities they go for. There are only a few aspects of hacking that you have to worry about as a private individual. One is that your details are on various company databases, and when these are cracked, information about you can be stolen. Turn your computer off at night! Most websites will tell you if your password is strong-this can be helpful.

Backups!

What are backups? What is Computer Backup? Computer backup is the storing copies of your files. The reason that we make computer backups is to protect against the event that something happens to damage our files so they are no longer usable. If we have backups of our files, then we can restore these files to our computer through our backups. What is Involved in Computer Backup? Computer backups can be made in very different formats. The traditional method of backing up computer files was the floppy disk. However, floppy disks are becoming increasingly obsolete. It is already not uncommon to not even see a new computer that includes a floppy disk drive when you go to the computer store, and it is becoming almost impossible to actually get a new computer that includes such a drive. Floppy disks can only hold 1.4 megabytes of data, and there are formats which can hold much more.
