Overall Goal of the Project  Develop full functionality of CMS Tier-2 centers  Embed the Tier-2 centers in the LHC-GRID  Provide well documented and usable user interfaces  Demonstrate commercial usability of the LHC-GRID my suggestion

Organisation of Work Work will be organized in Work Packages  Each work package has a work package coordinator and a leading institute  Work package coordinators report to the coordinator Definition of a work package: Objective (the overall goal) Description of work Schedule with milestones Deliverables (defined by EU)

Work Packages my suggestion on number:1 per participating institute Does the Tier-1 want a work packages ? Coordinating institute could go without.  Work packages cover all necessary jobs to run a Tier-2  Work should be logically divided into work packages with minimum overlap between the packages  Work packages should be approx. equal in size  Work packages should match the experience of the coordination instiute

Collaboration Model for each work package:  Coordinating institute becomes the expert in the WP topic  Develops the necessary software/tools on their Tier-2  Then trains appropriate persons of the other Tier-2s  Provides documentation  Provides support on questions concerning their WP  maximum synergy

Work Package 1: Middleware Installation Objective: Description: Deliverables: Milestones: EGEE: Adapt & install the GRID middleware to operate the Tier-2 centers Adaptation of GRID middleware to Tier-2 levels, where necessary (middleware coming from EGEE) Development of an installation tool for the GRID middleware on the Tier-2 GRID middleware clone for Tier-2 Installation tool & its documentation (web) adapted to Tier-2 level Installation training for system administrators 1st successful installation on all Tier-2 fully automized installation of GRID middleware Close overlap with EGEE

Work Package 2: CMS Objective: Description: Deliverables: Milestones: EGEE: Develop, install, and support CMS software (main user) Participate in the development of the CMS specific GRID software Installation of the CMS software through automized tools Setup and maintenence of MC and data queues on the Tier-2 (CMS Monte Carlo simulation through LCG) Running MC and data queues / demonstration through test jobs Installation tool & its documentation (web) Installation training for system administrators 1st successful MC job 1st successful data job Not covered by EGEE

Work Package 3: Endusers Objective: Description: Deliverables: Milestones: EGEE: Connection of local resources to the GRID Connection of endusers/Tier-3 centers to the CMS Tier-2 Special care of interactive level Inclusion of local resources Support for non-CMS users / commercial applications User interface for endusers and its documentation (web) Submission and successful processing of first CMS user jobs Submission and successful processing of external user jobs Much more specific than EGEE, hardly covered by the general scope of EGEE

Work Package 4: Connectivity Objective: Description: Deliverables: Milestones: EGEE: Provide the connection of the Tier-2 to the Tier-1 Development and installation of data transfer tools (PhEDex?) Automized update of data bases Conceptualisation of data backups at the Tier-1 (only?) Data transfer tool & its documentation (web) Data backup tool & its documentation (web) Estimate of necessary inter-Tier band width ( ) 1st successful data transfer Tier-1  Tier-2 Automized backup of data Tier-2  Tier-1

Work Package 5: Security Objective: Description: Deliverables: Milestones: EGEE: Setup of access control, access rights, accounting ensure safety of the Tier-2 centers User data bases (membership in virtual organizations), how to include commercial applicants. setup of accounting of resource usage Reports on resource usage. Documentation of virtual organizations and users Implementation of access control at all Tier-2 Creation of account symmaries Tools developed by EGEE, but we need to implement them and test them

Work Package 6: Benchmarking Objective: Description: Deliverables: Milestones: Exp. Results: Optimize performance of the Tier-2 centers Develop test jobs to measure various aspects of performance Compare different hardware /software concepts Identify bottlenecks Test jobs & their documentation for local maintenence Hardware recommendations (report) Test jobs ready Comaprative tests of hardware

Work Package 7: Multi-User Interactive Data Analysis Objective: Description: Deliverables: Milestones: Exp. Results: T T Develop interface for interactive data analysis

Work Package 8: Federated Tier-2 Objective: Description: Deliverables: Milestones: Exp. Results: Report on operation concept T Develop a concept for federated Tier-2 Concept of work sharing between the sites Determination of overhead? What needs to be doubled? Potential synergies

Procedure Details of the WP should be defined by the WP coordinator in close discussion with the coordinator. Experts needed! The coordinator has to ensure full coverage of all topics Do you want to discuss them now ?
