Assessment section The objectives of this section are to: ð describe the knowledge and skills required to undertake assessments ð outline the process of multi agency assessment ð provide a summary of various forms of assessment including: formal and informal assessments functional assessment objective assessments environmental assessment social care assessment □describe the teacher’s role in supporting assessment

Goal setting Example SMART goal: □ Child Y will receive a consistent response to her communication of a desire for ‘more’ during her daily tacpac sessions.

Intervention section The objectives of this section are to: ð emphasise the child as the centre ð describe multi agency working ð highlight individual learning styles ð focus on: ð Communication ð access to the environment ð differentiating materials ð the curriculum ð discuss the role of education professionals ð emphasise the importance of recognising and celebrating outcomes ð provide signposts to other resources ð provide guidance on where to go for more support

Intervention setting Example interventions: ð Video child Y during a Tacpac session to observe her facial expressions and body language ð Record the observed responses onto an affective communication assessment observation sheet and identify actions displayed which are felt to show pleasure ð Consistently respond to the identified response by saying “more, Y wants more” and repeating the specific activity ð Look for any increase in the identified action ð Include the identified communication in Y’s communication passport to ensure a consistent response in all settings

Case studies To provide examples of a range of learners illustrating: ð describe the needs of a number of children with MSI ð show how these needs are being met ð demonstrate the progress they are making

Course Forums ð Tutors and students can communicate through online discussions ð You will introduce yourselves on the Forums today Choose one student and reflect on what you have learned as a result of watching these videos. I have learnt a great deal from all the case studies. Hearing from all the practitioners in the school that support Rebecca and Joshua was really interesting. I felt that I had a very good idea of how the intervenors were supporting the children and meeting their individual needs. Watching these videos affirmed the actions I am already doing and gave me lots of new ideas too.
