“Together we grow in God’s love, learning to be the best we can be.” Welcome to Year 3 Teacher: Mr Dove Teaching Assistant: Mrs Lacey

Year Three is important because… Transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. Children are encouraged to become more independent. Children are given more responsibility. (Own draws in the classroom beneath the desk, able to join the choir, given jobs around the classroom).

Cornerstones Curriculum These are the cover pages for the six topics Year Three will be learning this year.

How can you help your child? Reading the time from an analogue and digital clock. Times tables (x2,x3,x4,x5,x8,x10). Hearing them read every night. Ask them to teach you something you have been taught.

Home learning Children are encouraged to consolidate their learning in class with home learning. Bug club for reading. Mathletics for Maths. Spelling sounds. Half Term Topics.

Liturgies Liturgies are held termly and are a celebration of prayer and learning. There is no obligation to attend all of them, but if you are unable to please inform your child and prepare them in advance. We appreciate many parents are busy and will give you as much notice as possible. Autumn – Tuesday, Spring – Friday, Summer – Tuesday.

Snack Time I encourage children to bring a fruit or vegetable snack into school each day. Please avoid yogurt coated fruits and fruit flavoured foods as these can be particularly high in sugar. During Snack Time we often watch Newsround to keep the children up-to-date with current affairs.

Keeping informed…

“That’s not how they taught it in my day…” Many mathematical and reading strategies that your children are being taught have been changed and modified over recent years. This can lead to parent feeling “out of the loop” with their child’s education. We do not want this! If ever you have any questions about the teaching methods used, please ask!

Reading in Year 3 Phonics will be incorporated into day-to-day teaching. Some children will continue to receive phonics lessons with myself or Mrs Lacey in a small group. Every child will read with us each week during guided reading sessions.

Mathematics in Year 3 Secure understanding of place value. Recognise equivalent fractions. Roman numerals from I to XII (1-12). Tell and write the time from an analogue clock. Know the time from a 12 hour and 24 hour clock. know the number of seconds in a minute and the number of days in each month, year and leap year Recognise how many right angles are in each turn e.g. two right angles in half a turn. Number bonds.

Any Questions?
