Program business and human rights

Program business and human rights Objective: Achieve that the employers integrate the promotion and respect of the human rights into their strategies and activities and form part of an integrated development, inclusive and participative. This way, we hope to decrease the violations of human rights by companies and their actions.

- Diploma Companies and Human Rights – First version 2008 – Second version 2010 (with optional sectorial approaches) Virtual tool Major tools

1st version: Diploma Companies and Human Rights (2008) Companies sensitized: 123 Companies trained: 82 Plans of improvement elaborated: 64 Thematic focus: Conflict sensible business practices, Anticorruption and forced displacement.

2nd version: Diploma Social Responsibility and human rights in the company (2010) Thematic focus: Major international norms Agreements ILO Framework of the United Nations Corporate Social Responsibility Methodical focus: “Guide for Integrating Human Rights into Business Management”, document developed by the Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights (BLIHR), the Global Compact and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Implementation through regional universities.

1.To get the private sector interested in human rights one should introduce the topic through CSR. 2.Big companies have been more sensible and interested in human rights than SMEs. Some big companies are interested in extend it to their suppliers. 3.The companies which have shown more interest and advanced in the area usually have been questioned nationally or internationally for their behavior in human rights. 4.Proposals on training in human rights have been developed which allow the integration into sectorial standards. Lessons learned

1.Design of a strategic plan to involve new organizations, topics, products which create a stronger impact on the private sector. 2.Development of capacities with regional partners. 3.Increase the presence of the program in more regions of the country. 4.Generate more knowledge and about the processes through an evaluation and monitoring plan. 5.Development and implementation of strategies to train and sensitize with emphasis on the different sectors.
