HISTORY OF BADMINTON It is said that The game of badminton was played at a place called Badminton in England. It is also said that The game of badminton was played at Pune in Maharashtra in 1870’s.in India it was named as ‘Pune’ due to its popularity in Pune.However it became more famous in England. In India it is controlled by Badminton Association of India.

POSTS/ NET/ SHUTTLECOCK POSTS- the posts should be 1.55m(5’-1”) in height and should be placed in the middle of side lines. NET- the height of the net on the side tops should be 1.55m(5’-1”) and should be 1.524m(5”-00”) at the centre. SHUTTLE COCK- Should have 16 feathers. It should weight between 4.74 to 5.5grams.

RACKET/PLAYERS/TOSS RACKET- Its overall length should not exceed 680mm( about 2 ½ feet) and width should not exceed 230mm ( about 9inches) the length of racket head should not exceed 290mm ( 11 ½ inches). PLAYERS- a single game is played between 2 players and double game is played between 4 players. TOSS- before the start of the game, players toss for- 1) choice to serve first 2) choosing a particular end of the court at the start of the game

SCORING Scoring- As per the new scoring rules, a player winning a rally scores a point. He may be a server or receiver it is immaterial. A game in Badminton consists of 21 points. The side which scores 21 points first wins a game. In case the score becomes 20-all, the side which gains a lead of two points, wins the game.however if the score becomes 29-all then the side scoring the thirty(30) point first wins the game.

CHANGE OF ENDS/ MATCH CHANGE OF ENDS- PLAYERS SHOULD CHANGE ENDS AT THE END OF THE FIRST GAME AND THE SECOND GAME, IF A THIRD GAME IS TO BE PLAYED.DURING THE THIRD GAME WHEN A SIDE REACHES THE SCORE OF 11POINT. MATCH- A MATCH IS WON BY A SIDE WINNING TWO GAMES IN A CONTEST OF BESTOF THREE GAMES.

SERVICE/ SERVICE FAULTS/SERVICE LET/LET SERVICE-FOR SERVICE, THE SERVER ANCEIVER SHOULD STAND IN THE OPPOSITE SERVICECOURTS. AT THE TIME OF SERVICE,SOME PART OF THE SERVERS AND RECEIVERS BOTH FEET MUST REMAIN IN CONTACT WITH THE CORT AND INA STATIONARY POSITION, TILL THE SERVICE IS DELIVERED. AT THE TIME OF SERVICE, THE SHAFT OF THE SERVERS RACKER SHOULD BE POINTINGDOWNWARDS AND THE WHOLE OF THE HEAD OF SERVERS RACKETSHULD BE BELOW THE SERVERS HAND. MOREOVER THE SHUTTLE SHULD NOT BE STRUCK FROM ABOVE THE WAIST OF THE SERVER AT THE TIME OF SERVICE. THE SHUTTLE COCK AFTER SERVICE, SHOULD FALL IN THE REDEIVERS COURT SERVISE FAULTS- IT IS A SERVICE FAULT IF THE SERVICE IS NOT CORRECTLLY DELIVERED OR WHEN THE SHUTTLE IS CAUGHT IN THE NET. SERVICE LET- IF THE SERVER SERVESS BEFORE A RECEIVER IS READY OR WHEN BOTH THE SERVER AND RECIVER COMMIT FAULTS DURING SERVICE,THEN IT IS LET LET- IT IS A LET POINT IF THE SHUTTLE AFTER HAVING CROSSED OVER THE NET IS STUCK OR REMAINS SUSPENDED IN THE NET DURING PLAY.

FAULTS DURING THE PLAY A PLAYER OR SIDE LOSES A RALLY IF THE SHUTTLE AFTER BEING HIT BY THAT PLAYER OR SIDE, LANDS OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES OF THE COURT. SHTTLE BE STRUCK TOICE A PLAYER OR SUCCESSION BY TWO PLAYERS OF THE SAME SIDE A PLAYER STRIKES A SHUTTLE BEFORE IT CROSSES OVER TO HIS SIDE OF THE COURT. HE CAN HOWEVER FOLLOW THE SHUTTLE AFTER STRIKING FROM HIS OWN COURT SHUTTLE PASSES THROUGH OR UNDER THE NET, OR TOUCHES THE PERSON OR DRESS OF A PLAYER TOUCHES THE CEILING IF THE SHUTTLE IS CAUGHT BY HAND OR HEAD ON THE RACKET. IF A PLAYER DURING PLAY, TOUCHES THE NET OR ITS SUPPORTS WITH ANY PART OF HIS RACKET, DRESS, PERSON. IF A PLAYER OBSTRUCTS AN APPONENT DURING PLAY.
