Waterways There are three fascinating falls located within the national park. They are Laurel Falls, Abrams Fall and, Rainbow Falls * Laurel Falls - located in the northern part of the park - 80 ft. high * Abrams Fall - located in the north west quadrant of the park - 20 ft. high * Rainbow Falls - located in the north east quadrant of the park - 80 ft. high

Rocks And Minerals Most of the rocks in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park are sedimentary and were formed by accumulations of clay, silt, sand, gravel, and minor amounts of calcium carbonate in flat lying layers. * The mountains were once 20,000 ft. high. Over millions of years, erosion has changed the Smokey's. Wind and rain have worn away the mountain tops. Today the highest peaks in the Smokies are less than 7,000 feet high above sea level. _ Clay _vast amounts of unconsolidated clay, silt, sand, and pebbles were washed down into lowland basins from adjacent highlands.
