Pulleys By: Alexis, Thomas, & Ethan

What is a pulley? A pulley is a wheel on an axle that is designed to support movement on a cable or belt along its circumference. Pulleys are used in a variety of ways to lift loads, apply forces, and to transmit power. A pulley is also called a sheave, or drum, and may have a groove between flanges around its circumference.

Examples of pulleys: Cranes Windows Engines Clothes lines Chair lifts Flag poles

What are they used for? Pulleys can do more than redirect the pulling tension of a rope. Gain mechanical advantage Reducing the force needed to move or lift a load

Questions: How do you use pulleys in your daily life? What are some examples? What are they used for? Who is the current president? Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes? What came first the chicken or the egg?
