 Your resume needs to be easy to read so scholarship committees and employers don’t have to search for information.  If you are going to put interests down on the resume, they need to be written in parallel structure (i.e., all ending in “-ing” or all nouns).  If your interests cause your resume to be 2 pages, leave them off.

 Your personal statement is a formal piece of writing. DO NOT USE CONTRACTIONS!!!  You do not need to introduce yourself in your personal statement. Your name is at the top. They know who they’re reading about already.  Phrases like “I personally think” are redundant. You’re writing this, therefore you think this.  Unless you are speaking to the reader (“Thank you…”) don’t use “you.” Try not to use “people.” Use “I” instead. It makes the statement more powerful.

 Read your resume and personal statement  Note the comments I made and corrections that I suggested (I made them out of love and to try to help you improve and make yourselves look better on paper)  Also write down any questions you need answered  It is your choice if you make any changes to your resume or personal statement. Just keep in mind, if there are mistakes and you don't change them, you probably won’t get the scholarship.
