Goals and Sponsor One of De Aviles goals were to kill the French. Another goal was to find gold and riches for King Philip II. Also the king wanted more land for Spain. De Aviles sponsor was King Philip II

More Facts The reason he went sailing was to find his son because he was shipped wrecked. Philip ordered De Aviles to take over La Florida for his own. De Aviles failed to find his son .

Pedro Mendez De Aviles’s Journey Pedro’s son Juan had shipwrecked off the east coast of Florida so he went looking for him. He started with 34 ships and ended with 5. Mendez’s ships engaged a French reinforcement fleet that was unloading soldiers, arms, and supplies for Fort Caroline.

Mendez went to florida from spain in1562. Most of Mendez’s men shipwrecked on the way back. When he got back the queen and king were excited about the gold he brought back.
