What are the different geographical concepts? Learning Objectives: To know and understand each one of the geographical concepts To be resilient when completing map-work activities and when using an atlas.

Geographical Concepts ? Space Scale Place Interdependence Human processes Physical Processes Cultural understanding and diversity Environmental interaction and sustainability

Main Activity 1 Using the blank world map that you have been given and your atlas. Mark on the following: The seven main continents (Africa, Asia, North America, South America, Australasia, Europe) The Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. The United Kingdom. The Sahara Desert The Amazon Rainforest The Himalayan Mountains Any other information that you feel is relevant.

Main Activity 1 cont.… Then colour in the rest of your world map using the atlas as a guide. Remember blue for the oceans/ seas, green for the land, yellow for desert areas and brown for mountain regions.

Produce two facts files. 1.For a country that you HAVE visited before 2.For a country that you would like to visit. Include in your fact-file the following information: -Country Size -Total population -Language spoken -Currency -Pictures of the people and the landscape -Is the country rich or poor and reasons for this. -5 important facts about the country -Describe / explain how this country is linked to the UK.
