Food Chains show how energy moves through the ecosystem in a linear fashion.
A producer is an organism that gets its energy from the sun. Example: sunflower plant.
Food chain- simple model that shows how matter and energy move through an ecosystem
Decomposers are organisms that eat dead or decaying organisms. They carry out the natural process of decomposition. Fungi is the primary and most common.

Presentation transcript:

Directions  Grab an organism card from Mrs. Copadis  Get out your lab notebook and answer the following  What is your organism?  What kingdom does your organism belong to?  How does your organism obtain energy?  Is your organism a producer, decomposer or consumer?  If you’re a consumer are you a herbivore, omnivore or carnivore? Does that make you a primary, secondary or tertiary consumer?

Objective  Students will visualize the affects of removing 1 or more trophic levels from a food chain through the food web laboratory experiment.

Agenda  Pre-lab Questions  Web It! Activity  Post Lab Questions

Post Lab Questions  What would have happened to our food web if a drought were to happen in the upland forest?  How did the disruptions to the food web affect the biodiversity of the upland forest ecosystem?  Why is diversity important?  Was our food web simple or complex? Explain your answer!
