Observations About The Law A shadow of things to come –Faint glimpse (Hebrews 10:1) –Superiority of the New Covenant Attitudes toward the Old Testament –Use it as authority for us today –Ignore it completely (Romans 15:4)
Three Feast Days First: Passover – 14 th day of Nisan (April) –Memorial of their deliverance (Exodus 12:1-3)
Three Feast Days Second: Waving of the sheaf –Beginning of the harvest (Leviticus 23:10-14) –Sheaf was waved that day, but none was to be eaten
Three Feast Days Third: Pentecost –S–S–S–Seven Sundays after the waving of the sheaf (Leviticus 23:15-21) –M–M–M–Marked the end of the harvest
Accomplished in 52 days –Jesus crucified on Passover (John 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:7) –Arose on the day of the waving of the sheaf (John 20:1) –God’s plan completed (Luke 24:46, 47; Acts 2:46, 47) –The harvest had begun
Pentecost- Beginning of An Era First one after arrival at Mount Sinai –Law was given and a celebration took place (Exodus 19:1; 20:1-17) –Became a nation –Eventually had a king
Pentecost- Beginning of An Era A new law given on Pentecost –Jesus: A new lawgiver (Deuteronomy 18:15-19; Acts 3:22) –Law went forth from Zion, Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:2, 3) –Written on the heart (John 6:44, 45) –Better covenant (Hebrews 8:6-13)
Pentecost- Beginning of An Era The Old Law, –Couldn’t free one from sin (Romans 8:1-4) –“Ministration of death” (2 Corinthians 3:7) –Better blood (Hebrews 12:18-24) –Sinai: 3,000 died (Exodus 32:28) –Pentecost: 3,000 saved (Acts 2:41)
Pentecost- Beginning of An Era Church began on Pentecost –Announced (Matthew 16:18) –“Grand Opening” (Acts 2) –Jesus: Founder and Head (Ephesians 1:22, 23)
Pentecost- Beginning of An Era Kingdom established –Before Pentecost: “Pressing into it” (Matthew 11:12) –Some lived to see it (Mark 9:1) –Reigning on Pentecost (Acts 2:30-36) –Men could not do what God did (Genesis 11:6-8)
Conclusion His suffering was over Long awaited kingdom had come Are you a citizen?
