Numbers 787 people on the GP’s dementia registers Expected prevalence of 1651 Therefore only 47.7% have a diagnosis In comparison with other areas we are 73 out of 178

Diagnosis Only 47.7% of people with dementia have a formal diagnosis Middlesbrough fits the national picture Early diagnosis means a better prognosis

What we are doing to improve the diagnosis rate Raising awareness through the response the Prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia The Mayor launched Middlesbrough’s response to the challenge in dementia awareness week Identifying GP surgeries who are less likely to refer

Diagnosis Memory clinic - TEVW Currently diagnose people within 6 – 8 weeks  1 – 2 weeks – initial assessment  2 – 6 weeks – CT scan  6 – 8 weeks – diagnostic appointment

Support post diagnosis Medication – majority of people are prescribed medication. Those who are not usually have heart problems or low blood pressure. Memory clinic will work with GPs to manage physical problems to enable medication to be prescribed.
