An open-source audio editor

Audacity is a free audio editor that was developed by a group of volunteers and released under the GNU General Public License. There are releases available for: Mac OSX Mac OSX Windows Windows Linux Linux

Types of editing that can be done: o Record live audio (The kids in your classroom) o Convert tapes and records into digital recordings (CDs - Our ESL Interviews) o Cut, copy, splice or mix sounds together. (Making audio how you want it in the classroom) o Change the speed or pitch of a recording. o … and the list goes on. The program itself is a waveform editor, meaning that all of your sounds can be edited to suit your individual needs.

This is how Audacity would look to most people. Running in Windows. Here are the change pitch screen, noise removal and change tempo screens.

Its ease of use makes it a welcome edition to any educational environment; and perfect for tasks such as: o podcasting o recording lessons o allowing students to record (creativity) o taking out/adding in to a sound clip you want to play in class

The fact that the program is also ‘open source’, also allows more advanced students to study and learn the software inner workings of a digital audio workstation. lol! ;)

Audacity even has support for Steinberg ‘Virtual Studio Technology’ (VST) plug-ins. These allow you to get a custom sound out of your audio project, and make exact adjustments to the tones of instruments, sound effects, and other types of audio files. This ensures that you get the exact tone you are looking for, and will delight your listening audience.

Audacity is written and supported by a group of volunteers, and is part of a large family of open source software titles.

It is available for free download at: Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
