Ecosystems  What is an ecosystem  Different types of ecosystems  Biotic & Abiotic  What is in an ecosystem

Ecosystems  Ecosystem – a group of organisms living together and their environment.  Coral Reef  Desert  Forest  Urban

What makes up an ecosystem?  There are 2 things that make up an ecosystem which are biotic and abiotic.  Biotic = all living things in an ecosystem, e.g., plants, animals, bacteria  Abiotic = all non-living things in an ecosystem, e.g., rocks, weather, temperature

Biotic & Abiotic Biotic  Frog, Tree, Grass, Fish, Mosquito, Snail, Bird, Lilly pad, Bacteria, Weeds, Abiotic  Oxygen, Soil, Light, Rock, Pollution, Temperature, Glass, Sand, Plastic, Pipe

What is in each ecosystem?  The study of all living things would be a huge task so we break things down into smaller pieces  kBRGvyw kBRGvyw

Species  Species – a group of organisms so similar to one another that they can breed and produce fertile offspring. e.g., one single mosquito

Population  Population – a group of individuals that belong to the same species and live in the same area. e.g., all the crows in an area

Community  Community – A group of several populations living in a defined area. e.g., all the frogs ducks, water lilies

Ecosystems Wrap-up  What is an ecosystem? -a group of organisms living together and their environment  Some types of ecosystems? -Forest, Urban  Biotic and Abiotic? -Living, Non-Living  Some things in an ecosystem? -Species, Population, Community
