Mr. Schwindel Presents:

All desert, right?

The Middle East is a very geographically diverse region with many different landforms and climate patterns.

You will now learn more about some of the important geographic regions and landforms of the Middle East. Please fill out your chart as you go along.

Location: These rivers run through Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. Important Facts: - These rivers have small tributaries (streams) that form freshwater lakes and swamps. This river system is a vital water source for the Middle East. - One of the earliest advanced civilizations, Mesopotamia, was located here.

Location: Egypt, in between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. Important Facts: - Due to its location, it has been the center of numerous political conflicts. - The Suez Canal, a man-made waterway that connects the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, is located here (see picture)

Location: Southern Saudi Arabia, and areas of Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Important Facts: - The second most oil-rich area in the world. (no, its not spelled wrong, it’s in German)

Location: Borders Jordan to the east and Israel to the west. Important Facts: - At 1,388 ft. below sea level, it is the lowest elevation on the Earth’s surface (on dry land) - Due to its high salinity (amount of salt in the water), animals cannot survive, hence its name.

Due to it’s high salinity, it is very easy to float in the Dead Sea.

Location: Stretches between central Afghanistan and northern Pakistan. Important Facts: - Location of most of the military action in Afghanistan

Use this map to fill in the bodies of water on the Blank HW Map.

BRING YOUR FILLED IN CHART AND MAP TO CLASS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!! It could come in handy. (Hint, hint.)
