Those who resist authority A study of Titus 1:10-16 All Scriptures quoted are from the New King James Version

The Character of Insubordinates A. In the churches of Crete 1. Idle talkers and deceivers 2. Defiled minds and consciences 3. Abominable and disobedient 4. Disqualified for all good works

The Character of Insubordinates B. In the Churches today 1. Resisting authority 2. Look out for talkers and not doers 3. These people deceive themselves and others 4. Following these people will make our religion useless according to James.

The Harm of Insubordinates A. In the Churches of Crete 1. They subverted entire households 2. They taught error for the sake of dishonest gain

The Harm of Insubordinates B. In churches today 1. Today motivation is by popularity and money 2. They teach what people want to hear, rather than the whole truth 3. Their influence will not just be on one or two individuals, but entire families!

The Treatment of Insubordinates A. In the churches of Crete 1. Their mouths needed to be stopped 2. They were to be rebuked sharply 3. This treatment was not just for the elders, but for every able bodied Christian

The Treatment of Insubordinates B. In churches today 1. We must take insubordination seriously 2. We must stop false teaching by addressing it, not ignoring it 3. We must consider the salvation of those who are behind false teaching 4. If the insubordinate refused to repent, then withdrawal is the final option

Every Christian has the responsibility to stop those who are not teaching the truth. Even though Elders and Preachers are given the primary task of eliminating these problems, every Christian must know what the Bible teaches and be on guard in their own household for false teachers.
