AUE / Architecture and Urban Economics Design Unit [Creative City & Urban Regeneration] 2015/16: 01QLYPQ Marco Trisciuoglio (8 CFU), Urban and Architectural Design Patrizia Lombardi (6 CFU), Economic Evaluation of Projects Luigi Buzzacchi (4 CFU), Economics and Urban Management Sara Monaci (2 CFU), Digital Media Sociology

AUE Design Unit will elaborate a smart high-quality design and sustainable urban development project, starting from specific knowledge and competence in four complementary fields: the architectural composition, the economic evaluation of development projects, the management of urban processes and the social awareness of digital citizens.

The City as space and the City as polysemic object are the traditional topics in the studies and researches about urban design. But the production of the Contemporary City follows economic and political rules, even in the building of the “Digital” City

Why do we evaluate? If we can’t measure and assess sustainable development, then how do we know we have made progress? How can we plan and put forward actions and take decisions?

Economics as the science of scarcity. Microeconomics as the analysis of individuals’ (firm, consumer, institution,...) behaviour in the process of resources allocation. Most of microeconomic models neglect spatial variables. In Urban economics, however, spatial variables - and in particular physical proximity - are at the centre of the analysis.

How digital media can change the vision and the representation of the city? How digital networks could enhance participation, social awareness and collaboration among citizens? What kind of digital tools and communication strategies could we use in order to share our project vision?

AUE Design Unit will elaborate a smart high-quality design and sustainable urban development project, starting from specific knowledge and competence in four complementary fields: the architectural composition, the economic evaluation of development projects, the management of urban processes and the social awareness of digital citizens.
