Optical illusions Princess or Old Lady? By: Ean Jacot
What are optical illusions? An optical illusion is an experience of seeming to see something that does not exist or that is other than it appears.
How does it work? The information gathered by the eye is processed by the brain. Because we have two eyes that see different things from slighlty different angels, the brain uses these two views to work out how far away objects are and produce a 3-D picture. Optical illusions happen because our brain is trying to figure out what we see and make sense of it. They trick our brains into seeing things which may or may not be real.
