Zero waste event pre-planning and vendor set-up Presented by: Teresa Bradley October 26, 2011 Green Initiatives for Events and Venues

Why have a zero waste event? Public image Saves money!!! People, profit, and planet-the right thing to do

Source Reduction Biggest piece of the pie/challenge Disposal Reuse Recycling Waste diversion Saving resources and reducing GHG levels

Set up ecostations for food vendors and attendees Closed top system reduces contamination if bin monitors aren’t present.

Make sure event producer has your support when talking to problem vendors. For example: If a food vendor decides to use Styrofoam plates and the event requires compostable; the Styrofoam must be removed. Otherwise they WILL contaminate the compost.

Provide signage at eye level on all containers; this includes signage for composting paper towels as well.

Event Waste Audit

For event producers to plan early when planning zero waste events. The hope is to have vendors, exhibitors, event producers, and take what they’ve learned and apply it at other events. Create green jobs To one day not have landfill containers or plastic of any kind at events My hopes and dreams
