Albert Bierstadt By: Katie Burks

Bierstadt was born in Solingen, Germany on January 7, When Bierstadt was two years old his parents and his two brothers moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts.But at the age of twenty-three Albert decided to return to Germany to study painting at the Dusseldorf School. He remained in Germany for four years and painted his first landscape.

Bierstadt was well-known for his landscapes of the American West. The Oregon Trail 1869

Albert Bierstadt was a member of the Century Association in 1862 until his death in New York on February 18, He is buried in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
