River Bank from Athens, Greece The river Kifisos has been turned into a rubbish dump and toxic area due to manufactories and encroachments of the river banks zone of 50m along the river banks an alternative plan, that was designed and developed on a voluntary basis, by a team of urbanists and architects led by professor V.Zotos proposes the complete regeneration of the uncovered urbanized part of the river

the transformation of Kifiso’s linear urban void into a continuous linear green park an air-conditioning corridor - the opportunity for tourists

activity areas, river bank improvements, additional green areas, photovoltaics and a sophisticated water management system for irrigation purposes, which work against flooding problems

RENOVATION OF THE RIVER LJUBLJANICA, Ljubljana (Slovenia), 2011

finishing touch to the southern point of the island on which the city centre is located

The renovation of the riverside areas of the River Ljubljanica as it flows through the old centre of the capital is consequence of a collective effort which, concentrating available resources in specific operations and optimising coordination between different developers and authors, has embraced Plečnik’s humanist dream and given it continuity.

The banks are wholly accessible, both in the longitudinal sense of their embankments and in the transversal sense that the project establishes with the different types of adjoining urban fabric

A unitary public space and yet, at the same time, one that that is endowed with a profusion of special parts, the river now gives the old city centre sufficient power of attraction to counteract the centrifugal effects of urban sprawl.

FUTURE VINGE TRAIN STATION - location: 3600 FEDERIKSSUN, DENMARK - architects: HENNING LARSEN ARCHITECTS - year: 2017

- is designed to prevent the railway from dividing the town in two halves. - the fundamental idea for Vinge is to develop a new town where natural elements are not simply added at the end, but integrated from the beginning of the town’s development.

The revitalization of the Marstall area in Germany, Hannover by Rotterdam-based practice Maxwan architects This urban design concept is part of the larger international urban and landscape design ideas competition “Hannover City ”

Placing buildings on the ends frames a well proportioned public space and maximizes the number of housing units - a key goal of the city. The building alongside the river is more open to allow views out toward the square/river, while the building near the city is more closed creating interior privacy. In both cases the plinth is ‘cut’ to create easier walking routes, while the upper levels retain a more robust form. The riverside building contains a space that is usable as either a cultural space or as shops. A shared space is created on the roof with great views. Additionally, the building opens up at the ground level onto a generous ramp, stepped terrace allowing users a place to sit, but also forming an amphitheater, ideal for small performances.
