PG (research) student – Requirements and Responsibilities Annual Progress Reports (APR) Due at Faculty every December, contain research progress and form basis of interviews Annual presentations to School First year students – poster at postgraduate conference / symposium Second year students – talk at postgraduate conference / symposium Third (final) year students – talk in School in special sessions Weekly SMB seminars – Friday at noon Compulsory attendance expected Intent to Submit (PhD Thesis) Expected by Faculty 3 months before thesis submission. Supervisor to provide Faculty with potential examiners, School will schedule final talk. A/Prof. Kevin Downard

PG (research) student information – PRSS Scheme Postgraduate Research Support Scheme (PRSS) Scheme to support travel to national (or international) and some other approved costs. A call for applications will be sent out in September or early October. All original receipts for costs associated with conference travel for that calendar year should be retained until the time of application. Major features of the scheme include: a maximum of one application per year a maximum of three payments per candidature applications will normally be considered for approved receipts totalling $200 - $1,200 (up to $2,000 for assistance towards overseas conferences) Valid Receipts : conference travel, accommodation, registration, visits to interstate laboratories or facilities, contributions to computer hardware or software, relevant books. School of Molecular Bioscience – PG (research) student information Gregory B. Ralston-Beckman Coulter Travelling Scholarship Established in memory of the late Associate Professor Gregory B. Ralston and supported by Beckman Coulter Pty Ltd. Typically $2000. The annual award is made available to a research postgraduate student in the School who is pursuing a biochemically-based project, to assist with the costs of attending a conference of national or international significance. The student must be presenting an abstract or poster at the conference. Conference must be attended within 12 months from receipt of award. School will call for applications due in April. PG (research) student information – Outstanding Achievement Postgraduate Research Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement Established in 2007 by the Faculty of Science to recognise outstanding postgraduate student achievements, particularly during the early phases of candidature. Up to 8 prizes of $500 to be awarded annually. The Dean will ask for one nomination from the Head of each of the seven Schools (and HPS or ACMM in alternate years) within the Faculty of Science. The criteria for these prizes are the significance and quality of a manuscript which has been accepted for publication, and the role the student played in the research project. Nominees must be within 38 months from the commencement of candidature in their postgraduate research studies as a Doctor of Philosophy or Masters by research of degree and be a senior author of a significant, high-quality publication that was submitted for publication not less than 6 months from commencing candidature, and was accepted for publication within 36 months of commencing candidature.
