Rationale, Goal, and Performance Objectives Rationale: It is important for students to learn and understand different regions, cultures, and people throughout the world. Goal: Students will explain how these regions, cultures, and people relate to each other. Objectives: The learner will identify a significant individual from a different region of the world and discuss cause and effect relationships surrounding a major event in the individual’s life.

Performance Objectives Continues After selecting two societies, the learner will compare the roles of women, religious ideas, and class structures in those societies. Given a world map, the learner will identify physical and cultural regions and show relationships among regions. Given information about global resource distribution, the learner will use the information to make generalizations about why nations engage in international trade. Given characteristics of government, the learner, will classify the characteristics as typical of a monarchal, democratic, or dictatorial type of government. The learner will identify and analyze alternatives through which civic goals can be achieved by working with others to choose the best alternative.

American Heritage Activities Students will view videos of different ethnic groups. Students will make a KLW chart of diversity Students will make a timeline charting the different ethnic groups. Students will research the autobiographies of famous people in different ethnic groups Students will research and learn about a different aspect of a culture of an ethnic group whether it is food, art, clothing, music, and etc.

American Heritage Activities Websites

People in Societies Activities Students will make a Venn Diagram of the different ethnic societies. Students in groups will do a simulation model of different ethnic interacting with each other. Students will compare and contrast different religions of ethnic groups. Students will compare and contrast different laws of ethnic groups. Students will write a 1 page summary of a famous woman in a ethnic group.

People in Societies Websites

World Interactions Activities Students will use the Odyssey Globe to learn about different countries in ethnic groups. Students will play a map game in groups by learning the latitude and longitude positions of different countries. Students will make a report on different ecosystems of ethnic groups in their countries. Students will draw a map of a country other than America. Students will research different currencies of different countries.

World Interactions Websites

Decision Making and Resources Activities Have a stockbroker speaker for the students to explain the working of international trade. Student will research and summarize IMF, WTO, and World Bank organizations. Students will conduct a simulation model of a international trade agreement between different countries. Students will research and summarize the GDP and GNP of a different country. Students will make a Venn Diagram of goods and services certain countries produce.

Democratic Processes Activities Students will make a Venn Diagram of the different governments of different countries. Students will compare and contrast governments of different countries using different types of media. Have a guest speaker perhaps a political science major talk to students about the governments of different countries. Students will simulate the governmental procedures of different countries. Students will listen to different countries national anthems.

Citizenship Rights and Responsibilities Activities Take a field trip to a actual city commission meeting. Have a guest speaker perhaps a political science professor to talk to students about the democratic voting process in countries who have elections. Students will research the important issues that are affecting countries today. Students will simulate a mock election on a country who have democratic elections. Students will research and summarize a famous political leader of a democratic elected country.

Citizenship Rights and Responsibilities Websites

Science,Technology, and Society Use the Internet to research websites of different ethnic groups and cultures. Students will make a PowerPoint presentation on a summary about diversity. Students will use CD-ROMS to research different ethnic groups and cultures to prepare for their PowerPoint presentation. Students will be able to use the media center to help with their research. Students will be able to use slides of different ethnic groups and cultures using a Kodak Carousel Projector.
