Presentation transcript:

1 Contribution of IST projects to EMTEL on user requirements Krisztina Cziner Helsinki University of Technology EMTEL meeting, Stockholm, 1st of Sept, 2006

2 Problems with getting user requirements Large number of user studies had been performed and duplicated There is no common data base for user requirements Problems with common terminology and terms The common terminology has to be established and promoted (User, end user,Scenario, use case etc.) Requirements related to the network level system issues are mostly missing (security, resilience, performance, security, …. ) Reluctance to provide user requirements National security issue

3 Challenging task To establish a common standardized methodologies to obtain user requirements is quite a challenging task  meanwhile technology developing extremely fast, which opens up new requirements day-by-day  certain requirements collected form user sare inadequate or unnecessary to fulfil  the duty of rescue services such as (police, fire fighters, ambulance and rescue team )is very spontaneous  proper databases are needed to provide information

User Studies DeHigate WP1 CHORIST WP12 u2010 WP1 Standardization projects MESA, EMTEL Projects Generalized Ref, Scenarios EU Fuctional Requirements PSC Europe WP1,2 Project Ref. scenarios 1. Methodologies User requirements 2. Scenarios, User requirements 3. Field trial Overview of different projects and their possible contribution to EMTEL

5 Overview of user requirements

6 Translation of user requirements into system requirements Mapping/translation process

7 Reference Scenarios 1.Reference scenarios relevant for EU have to be identified 2.These need to be generic to include to be able to include large number of fragmented scenarios developed in different countries by different user groups and organisations 3. Reference scenarios template has to be developed 4. Data base Reference scenarios Use case 2Use case 3Use case 4Use case 1

9 Discussion topics for EMTEL group How to develop a structured methodology for European Public safety user requirements? Is it possible to work together with EMTEL on structuring and consolidation of user requirements in a common Data Base How IST projects could contribute EMTEL deliverables and work on Work Items - exiting deliverables - open new WI … - establish Database at EMTEL web site - to launch small Special Task Force for this purpose - Coordinate this work with PSC Europe? - How this work could be organized ?
