Course Aims and Objectives “This course is designed to give delegates an understanding of what Equalities Impact Assessments are, why Bristol city Council needs to do them, and how to conduct one effectively.” See workbook for list of detailed objectives Any personal learning objectives you would like to add, or areas you would like to focus on?

Process Overview 1. Workshop One (Screening stage) – Identify Aims and objectives, initial consideration of impact 2. Data gathering/research 3. Workshop Two - Consideration of data and assessment of impact 4. Consult stakeholders and consider results 5. Workshop Three – Plan actions to mitigate adverse impact etc., consider monitoring arrangements 6. Publish results / Implement action plan

Consultations Group Discussion: Why is this stage of the process important? Who might you contact to access the views of different communities? What considerations do you need to make, in terms of how you conduct the consultations? What likely barriers, or resistance may you come up against?

Practical Exercises Concessionary Bus Travel Project: 1. In groups/pairs, complete both the screening and full EqIA forms for this project 2. In groups/pairs, review what your previous group came up with – any gaps, omissions or other ideas? 3. Review the ‘real’ EqIA for this project – did you identify all the issues? Were there any other impacts to add?
