Strategic Communications History Project started by Provost Henshaw – 2006 Jointly sponsored by IET and University Relations Product selected – December month product evaluation Recommendation report – 2010 Centrally funded campus service – April 2011

Strategic Communications Service Goals Facilitate creation and management of standards- compliant websites Support consistency in messaging, branding and identity across university websites Reduce need for specialized skills to build and maintain websites Provide a centrally managed, dynamic, flexible campus Web infrastructure Meet requirements for Web content accessibility

Enhancements to the standard suite New modular model deployed in 2011 Provides flexibility in site formatting and function Easy to create, advanced content Enhancements to-date include: Flex page RSS FAQ Slides Code inclusion Features Drop menus Simple forms More enhancements in progress Model shared at national user group

Training/support Biweekly, on-line training Web CMS website ( Client issue tracking through IET’s Remedy system Client self-service through IET Knowledge Base Monthly user group meetings Virtual webhosting service Infrastructure funded by the Web CMS service budget Currently hosting ~75 sites ~25 sites managed by the Web CMS service Faculty personal/research site support IET will provide a parallel service to meet faculty needs

Strategic Communications How are we doing? One size fits many (not all) ~3 new site requests per week Client survey completed end of April 2013 Sent to ~500 service clients ~180 responded ~83% completion rate

Strategic Communications Survey says The Web CMS makes it easier to: Meet campus Web standards - 91% agree Meet campus branding standards – 89% agree The Web CMS helps make content that is: Timely – 91% Consistent – 90% High quality – 83% Overall, rate the Web CMS service: Excellent – 27% Very good – 49% Average – 20% Below average – 4% Poor – 0%
