Chapter 3 Humanity is banished from the Garden of Eden for committing original sin (Eve eats fruit from the Tree of Knowledge against the will of God). Which Poisonwood characters fit which role? Which settings represent the Garden of Eden?

Chapter 5 Methuselah, the father of Noah, dies right before the great flood. Methuselah was 969 years old when he died, the oldest person ever mentioned in the Bible. His extreme old age demonstrates his knowledge and wisdom. Parrot named Methusalah

Chapter 9 Ham sees his father, Noah, drunk and naked. When Noah finds out about this, he curses the descendants of Ham's son, Canaan.

Chapter 22 God tells Abraham to kill his son, Isaac, to display his love for God. Abraham blindly listens to God and carries Isaac up a mountain. At the top of the mountain, he is about to kill Isaac when an angel tells him to stop. Thematic connection: authority and blind devotion/obedience
