Our Body Systems!

Body Systems What are they? You have 11 body systems in your body. Each of these work together to make your body operate. When you take part in sport, it is not just a case of moving your arms and legs. All the body systems work together.

Your Integumentary System This is your skin, hair, finger and toe nails, and sweat glands. This body system protects your insides, helps to regulate your temperature (homeostasis!), and is the location of sensory receptors (so you can feel pain and pleasure).

Your Muscular System Is made up of muscles. Red meat around your body. They pull on bones and make them move.

Your Skeletal System Bones provide a frame Protect your body parts Without bones you would be a shapeless heap.

Your Cardiovascular System Blood, heart and blood vessels. Heart pumps blood through the body. Blood carries oxygen around the body.

Your Nervous System The brain, spinal cord and network of nerves. Sends and receives messages through your body.

Your Lymphatic System Returns leaked fluid to your blood vessels. Gets rid of germs that can harm you.

Your Digestive System The stomach and intestines. This is where the food you eat gets broken down. Nutrients are absorbed.

Your Endocrine System Contains glands (including ovaries and testes) Regulate your body functions

Your Respiratory System The lungs and breathing tube. This is how you take in oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide.

Your Urinary System Kidneys, bladder Removes waste from your body Regulates body fluid

Your Reproductive System Male: produces and delivers sperm Female: produces eggs and nourishes and shelters an unborn baby

Body Systems You will receive a body system to look at and describe. Get a partner, one of you trace around the other then work together to draw the life- sized body system you were given. Label your diagram and be prepared to present a short paragraph about your life size body system.

Working together How do body systems work together? Compare how a car and a human body are similar.
