PARALLELISM Graceful Writing!

 If joined sentence parts are not equal, faulty parallelism has occurred.

 FAULTY: Bill lectured on planting and how to harvest. (noun joined to phrase)  REVISED: Bill lectured on planting and harvesting.

 FAULTY: I know the answer and what it signifies. (noun joined to a clause)  REVISED: I know the answer and its significance.

 FAULTY: The teacher asked us to help decorate the gym and if we could get the materials. (phrase joined to a clause)  REVISED: The teacher asked us if we could help decorate the gym and if we could get the materials.

Correct the faulty parallelism  A new employee orientation program is both worthwhile and a necessity.  The chosen site should have adequate facilities for receiving raw materials and distribution of finished products.

 As a merger prospect, the company is well organized, soundly managed, and a good profit potential has been demonstrated.  The supervisor is industrious, intelligent, and knows how to manage her personnel.

 Jack was a miser, a bachelor, and egotistical.  Both of these kinds of hiking boots provide protection from water, dirt, and other abrasive materials.
