Oregon By Aide Contreras

State Animal  Oregon state animal is the American beaver.  The beaver has nice fur.  The beaver is “nature’s engineer “.

State Bird  The Western Meadowlark has a V shape on it’s belly.  The bird has a yellow belly.  It has a nice flute-like song.

State Tree  The Douglas-fir grows to be 200 feet tall.  The tree is 6 feet in diameter.  The tree has great strength.

State Flag  Oregon’s state flag is the only one with two pictures on each side.  On one side of the flag is the beaver there state animal.  The flag has the number of states in 1859.

State Flower  The Oregon Grape has some fruit in it that can be used for cooking.  The flower is dark blue late in the fall and dainty yellow early in the summer.  The flower has waxy green leaves.

State Capital  Salem is Oregon’s state capitals.  Salem had a population of 136,924 in 2000 census.  Willamette River runs north through the city.  The city neighborhood of West Salem is in Polk Country.
