SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, ETHICS, INTEGRITY What do these terms mean? Discuss as a class the meanings of these terms and who they apply to us in our everyday life Create a class definition of these terms Social responsibility:

ETHICS Are the moral standards and principals that guide people’s decisions and actions Ethical people do what they believe is the right thing YouTube clip: Have you ever had to make an ethical decision?

EXAMPLE OF ETHICS IN BUSINESS: Movie Monsters Inc. Presents a business case where the CEO of Monsters Inc. has to balance the ethics and effectiveness of production methods with profit pressures from investors. Making a profit by frightening children after trespassing into their bedrooms (ethical issue – is this the right thing to do?) Executive greed and self-dealing Executive abuse of power by ordering exile of faithful workers who know too much about new plans Keeping secret development project away from CEO (rebuilding Boo's closet door)

CORPORATE CULTURE Definition: a term used to describe the shared values and beliefs of the people in the organisation Ethics of the business vary depends on the organisations corporate culture

BUSINESS CODE OF ETHICS A business code of ethics typically includes: Responsibilities to the organisation’s stakeholders Commitment to ethical business practices Policies on employment and human resource Statements about the organisations active social responsibility

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Corporate social responsibility may be highlighted in relation to either: Outcomes of the organisation’s own activities A more general concern for society (Continue through text book page 26 and 27)
