HOWARD SCHULTZ Chairman, PRESIDENT, and CEO

Before this assignment, I did not know about the CEO of Starbucks and had actually never heard his name. But after reading and watching interviews about Howard Schultz I came to realize what a great leader he was. He was able to create such a successful company and still stay true to his mission and take care of his employees. I was so impressed that his number one passion was helping others and giving part time employees benefits his father never received. With that making his second passion coffee. He made clear that his priority was people. Here are a couple of slides and quotes portraying Schultz as a successful transformational leader….

Idealized Influence His passion was not with coffee, it was with the people and treating everyone with dignity and respect “Companies should not have a singular view of profitability. There needs to be a balance between commerce and social responsibilities… the companies that are authentic about it will wind up as the companies that are authentic about it will wind up as the companies that make more money.” He wanted to build a business that his father would have loved to work for, one that cares for its employees and provides them with benefits and even a stock option plan

Inspirational Motivation Vision When Starbuck’s stock declined 50%, Schultz came back as CEO, he shut the doors and retrained all employees so that they could get back to the basics, focusing on the quality of the coffee- their vision Believing In Others “You can’t build any kind of organization if you’re not going to surround yourself with people who have experience and skill base beyond your own.” “when you’re surrounded by people who share a passionate commitment around a common purpose, anything is possible ”

Intellectual Stimulation “dream more than others think practical” He inspired greatness of his employees and listened to his employees. One of the most successful drinks and most profitable: the frappuccino was an employee’s idea! Individualized Consideration Schultz developed: Working Solution to help its employees for their personal needs by providing them assistance when required. He had different training program for all class of employees according to their skills and knowledge
