Known argument 1: Peering is cheaper than IP Transit The unknown arguments for peering #3 Still the main argument for peering The truth of this argument is shrinking in some regions and for smaller bandwith as peering models are based on flat fees for ports. It´s the main argument used for the management to get the aproval for peering – but don´t use only that argument!

Known argument 2: Lower latency The unknown arguments for peering #4 You have a shorter path by using peering This should result in lower latency but it´s not a must This argument is definitely too technical for your management

Unknown argument 1: Recognition The unknown arguments for peering #5 Peering on an IXP is also marketing for the company The ANEXIA / MEDIANOVA example This is especially true when it comes to peering on international IXPs

Unknown argument 2: Collaboration The unknown arguments for peering #6 An IXP is a big marketplace for more than just IP packets An IXP is the perfect interconnection point for MPLS and other data projects (multinational….) VLANs over the IXP make it easy to build a Business Case (instead of expensive NNIs).
