Traits  Descriptive characteristics of people (These are the things our brain uses to group)

Conceptualization  Organization of traits into categories  “Chunking” = SS#, phone numbers, license plate #

Conceptualization gives meaning  Blue Horse  President love  wine father  marriage war  capitol TV gray

Conceptualization  Gives sense of order, constancy, and regularity to the world

Central Traits  A characteristic that has a strong effect on our overall evaluation of a person

Halo Effect  Belief that when an individual possesses one trait, we assume they possess certain other traits. (we make this judgment even as young as nursery school).  Can be both positive or negative example of positive- Charisma

Primacy  First impressions set the tone for future interaction and beliefs  Items learned first will be interfere with those most recently learned

Recency  Tendency to be influenced by what we just observed
