The Voice Who Are You?

My awesome 486 computer

Who are you?

Who are you? What defines you?

Many of us have been defined by other people

What defines us Quite often limits us And keeps us from God's best for us

Who you are in Christ Is Greater than Your greatest definition For yourself

What defines you?

Who you are in Christ Is Greater than Your greatest definition For yourself

David: What they say What's been done to him What he's done

David: What they say What's been done to him What he's done What God says about him

Meet the new boss… Same as the old boss

When Samuel arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town trembled when they met him. They asked, “Do you come in peace?”

Samuel replied, “Yes, in peace; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come to the sacrifice with me.”

Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the LORD’s anointed stands here before the LORD.”

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.

The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”

Jesse then had Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, “Nor has the LORD chosen this one”

Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The LORD has not chosen these.”

So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?”

“There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered, “but he is tending the sheep” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered, “but he is tending the sheep”

He's just a sheep-boy. We don't include him. 15 years old

Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives”

So he sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome features

Behind Blue Eyes

Then the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him; he is the one” - 1 Samuel 16:4-12 Then the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him; he is the one” - 1 Samuel 16:4-12

Who would you believe? Everyone…all your life?

Who would you believe? Everyone…all your life? Or a Prophet who anoints you King and leaves… And you ain't king yet?

For 15 years!

He's been called by God But he hasn't been placed Because God is using this time To Make him

What would you believe: What people say about you? Or what God says about you?

It'll dictate How he responds To the circumstances of life

We live out of what What we believe About ourselves, our world Our God

"I'm a King!" "Great! Now I have a King Watching over my sheep…"

The Kids are Alright…

Now Jesse said to his son David, "Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp"

Now Jesse said to his son David, "Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp" But…I'm a King!

Take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit. See how your brothers are and bring back some assurance from them.

They are with Saul and all the men of Israel in the Valley of Elah, fighting against the Philistines”

Early in the morning David left the flock with a shepherd, loaded up and set out, as Jesse had directed.

Going Mobile…

Early in the morning David left the flock with a shepherd, loaded up and set out, as Jesse had directed. Knowing who God calls him to be Doesn't produce pride But humility

He's faithful with what He's given God's gonna give him more

He reached the camp as the army was going out to its battle positions, shouting the war cry. Israel and the Philistines were drawing up their lines facing each other.

Imminence Front…

David left his things with the keeper of supplies, ran to the battle lines and greeted his brothers.

As he was talking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, stepped out from his lines and shouted his usual defiance, and David heard it.

When the Israelites saw the man, they all ran from him in great fear.

Now the Israelites had been saying, “Do you see how this man keeps coming out? He comes out to defy Israel.

The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his father’s family from taxes in Israel.”

David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel?

Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

They are looking At the size of the Enemy And they're getting scared

David's looking At the strength of his God And getting ready

Your focus Determines your attitude

They repeated to him what they had been saying and told him, “This is what will be done for the man who kills him.”

When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here?

And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the desert? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle”

Young Man Blues…

Just because God says Something about you Don't expect everyone around you to agree

David has to decide What defines him…

If it's what they've said He walks away

If it's what they've said He walks away - No faith in what God said No strength, no risk

- Why shame his family And lose his nation?

He has no chance

What defines him? Who is he? What they say? Or what God has said?

If it's God There's Destiny Power Guidance

"I know how conceited you are…" “Now what have I done?” said David. “Can’t I even speak?”

He then turned away to someone else and brought up the same matter, and the men answered him as before. What David said was overheard and reported to Saul, and Saul sent for him - 1 Samuel 17:17-31

He is who God says he is… Because he chose To believe God

Never wear Another man's armor…

Goliath gets stoned And loses his head

David believes God Lives out of his God-given identity And it changes everything

What have you believed About how to define yourself?

What have people said That you've believed And it's limiting your life Stealing your freedom Making you prideful/miserable

Strength fades Beauty dies away Money is never enough Popularity is fickle Position and Accomplishments can be eclipsed

It's never about Whether someone believes in you Or even whether you believe in yourself

It's about your faith in Jesus And his calling in your life

God wants more…

Chosen, Adopted Loved, Accepted Empowered, Greater is he That is in you…

The cross produces a Grace That leads to self-acceptance

"By the grace of God I am what I am AND his grace to me Was not without effect…"
