 How much college information is made readily available to ELL students and parents?  My goal: Increase ELL student knowledge on post-secondary options and Naviance. Provide information on post-secondary options for ELL parents.

Pre-Test

Pre-test revealed:  100% (15) would like to attend college  13% (2) are set up with Naviance accounts  On a scale of 1-10: ◦ 20% (3) scored 8+ on understanding post- secondary options ◦ 20% (3) scored 8+ on understanding the difference between 2-year and 4-year school

Post-Test

Post-test revealed:  100% (15) are set up with Naviance accounts  80% (12) are confident in using Naviance  100% (15) would like to use Naviance for their future college process  On a scale of 1-10: ◦ 93% (14) scored 8+ on understanding the difference between 2-year and 4-year college ◦ 93% (14) scored 8+ on how useful this workshop was to them ◦ 100% (15) scored 8+ on understanding graduation requirements

 Some statistics: ◦ The number of HS graduates peaked in 2009 at 3.3 million. Numbers are projected to decline through , and remain below 2009 levels through at least ◦ Although the number of graduates have declined, growth in the number of applications per student has continued to increase steadily.

◦ TECHNOLOGY  Use of Internet and Social Media Tools in the recruitment process.  Ease of applying

◦ Average selectivity rate (% of students offered admission) is decreasing. ◦ This has created more difficulty for colleges to predict their “yield”. ◦ The ease of applying to multiple colleges creates disincentives for students to spend time evaluating the “fit” of their college options.*  *NACAC, 2011 State of College Admission Report
