 Wiki  Todays Meet

 1 Evening Kickoff (tonight)  4 Daytime Sessions (Oct. 10, Feb. 6, Mar. 13, May 15)  5 Mentor-Protégé Planning Sessions (Scheduled at your convenience)

Allan, would you rather climb Mount Everest or scuba dive to the bottom of the ocean? o Every other person will hold a tennis ball o Make eye contact o Throw your tennis ball to the person you are asking the question to – they answer o They keep the tennis ball to throw to the next person and ask their question o Move around the room

The essence of a working partnership is creating an environment for collaboration.

1. Are the conditions right for us tocollaborate successfully? 2. Is the work we are doing aligned withindividual TPGP, school anddivisional priorities? 3. Is the work that we are doingfocused on improved teacherinstruction and student learning? 4. Are we using appropriate data andevidence to inform our work? 5. How are we sharing what we learn?(peer observation or instructionalcoaching, consultation, reportingand conversation)

Creating Norms: o An understanding that the work we do together is to analyze and improve classroom practice and learning. o Participation interaction can accommodate for potential distractions and ensure that the investment of time is worthwhile. o Establishing norms can help to overcome a fear that data will be used to criticize or evaluate instruction. Shared personal practice with peers in a formalized setting with the intent to improve and change practice is an essential part of collaboration.

 Regular time and space to meet?  Communication between meeting dates? ( , phone, meeting dates)  Answering questions, planning, listening and reflecting on feedback?  Perceptions? (work on evidence versus assumptions)  Brainstorming: what are our needs, supports, responsibilities, timelines?  Plan to Action: how will we move our work forward?  Reflections: how will time be built into action and planning to ensure reflection?  Celebrations: how will we celebrate success? Our Norms

Professional Advice

 What knowledge, expertise, and best practices will you focus on during your time together?  How will you go about sharing information and skills?

 In Mentor-Protégé teams read the “Consultant” section of the mentorship handbook individually, stopping after each section  Take turns summarizing each section  At each stop and summary point, partners co- develop examples (how could you actually put this into practice?) that illustrate their understanding of the text

 Using a highlighter from your table, highlight words or phrases that you believe are important.  In your table group, the first person shares their word or phrase. Going clockwise, the next person comments on the word or phrase just described, and so on around the table. The person who initially shared the word or phrase gets to make the last comment.  Complete this process for all table group members.

 On the last page of your handbook is an action plan for your mentorship partnership to complete.  Grab your supper and come back and complete your action plan.

 We appreciate everyone for being here tonight.  Please set up your first mentorship collaboration day.

 As we prepare for our 4 meetings this year, what are areas do you want to discuss?  What areas can we support you in right away?
