EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE Fire Emergency Earthquake Emergency Bomb Threat S illiman U niversity V olunteer F ire and R escue U nit

Our INITIAL RESPONSE……. 1. In the event of a fire in any of the buildings of the college, it is important that the teacher stays calm/composed. 2. The teacher immediately instructs the students to execute emergency evacuation procedure for fire emergency.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (FIRE) 1. The teacher immediately instructs all his/her students to evacuate the classroom in single file beginning either in the front or rear row of the seating arrangement. 2. The teacher ensures that all students in his/her class shall have evacuated the room before he/she evacuates the same. 3. More often than not, deaths during evacuation procedure are caused by stampede which is often the result of panic. Hence, during evacuation, the teacher is to constantly remind (with an authoritative voice) the students to: STAY CALM (No pushing, running, or shouting)

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (FIRE) 4. During evacuation, occupy the far left or far right of the hallway while maintaining single file formation. Evacuate using the nearest exit in the building. 5. For purposes of expeditious evacuation of the building, a traffic separation scheme is applied:

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (FIRE) 6. The use of the elevator (if the building has an elevator) during evacuation is absolutely prohibited. 7. The teacher then directs the students to the designated evacuation area. 8. Upon reaching the Evac Area, the teacher immediately conducts a headcount of his/her students and immediately reports to the GROUND COMMANDER (of the responding firefighting team) should there be an unaccounted student. (Report the last known location of the student)

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (FIRE) 9. While in the Evac Area, the teacher continues to instruct students to stay calm and stay in the Evac Area until the Crew Chief gives the instruction to move to a new Evac Area. 10. Make sure all students keep clear of the road. Normally, responding firefighting teams in their fire trucks proceed to the fire scene in a very fast speed. This is potentially dangerous for the evacuating people.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (FIRE) Important Reminders: 1.If you, by any chance, discover the fire, immediately trigger the alarm device nearest to your location and notify the nearest Office. 2. Observe the “evacuation pace” when evacuating the building. This is a walking pace faster than the normal pace. 3. As much as possible, disregard getting valuables in your Office or locker. The behavior of fire is normally UNPREDICTABLE. The time for evacuation may be your only chance for a safe escape.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (FIRE) 4. If parts of the building are overwhelmed with thick smoke; it is best to stay as low as possible to the ground. It is even advisable to crawl as there is still breathable air within a distance of six (6) inches from the ground. 5. If the shirt you are wearing, by any chance, catches fire: STOP, DROP, and ROLL TO THE GROUND to smother the flame. 6. Do not play HERO. The University has well-trained fire and rescue volunteers who can capably respond to this type of situation.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (Earthquake) Our INITIAL RESPONSE….. 1.In the event of an earthquake (shaking of the ground, ceiling fans will sway, windows will shatter), the teacher, in a calm but authoritative voice, gives the students the order to: DUCK, COVER, and HOLD. 2. Duck, Cover, and Hold is done by staying under sturdy chairs and tables and holding on to the same until the tremors cease.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (Earthquake) 1. After the shaking stops, quickly assign a student to open the door (if the door is closed). However, it is advised not to close the door because there is a big chance that the door might jam should walls crack or collapse. 2. The teacher quickly instructs the students to evacuate the room in single file formation. 3. While evacuating the room, ensure that your head is protected. (Cover) 4. Evacuation procedures observed during fire emergency will apply.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (Bomb Threat) Our INITIAL RESPONSE….. 1. Immediately NOTIFY the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent or the Security Office of the University. 2. Pass the word to all teachers occupying the building and ensure that information stays with the teacher.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (Bomb Threat) Important Reminders: 1. Treat every bomb threat, no matter how phony, as real and serious. 2. Do not make any attempt to use your cellphone or any electronic device. 3. When notifying the BG Superintendent or the Security Office, use a telephone line separate from the telephone line of the building under threat.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (Bomb Threat) 4. Do not attempt to turn off electric fans, computers, television, and other appliances in the classroom or office. 5. If the above-mentioned appliances are in the OFF mode, do not attempt o turn them ON. 6. If you evacuate the room or your office, do not anymore close the door. 7. Be observant to changes in the arrangement of furniture, tables, chairs, appliances. Report these changes immediately to the ground commander of the responding Bomb Squad of the PNP. This information might lead to the quick discovery and disarming of the bomb (should the threat be real). 8. Be vigilant of unattended packages, bags, and other suspicious looking items in the classroom or office. Immediately report the same to the Security Office if nobody claims it.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE (Bomb Threat) 9. Procedure in evacuating the building will follow the Evac Procedure for fire emergency. 10. The Evac Area for bomb threat scenario shall be an area situated as far as possible from the building/area under threat.

In case of fire emergency, call: or (400)
