S.A.P Student Assistance Program Central Dauphin East Middle

What is S.A.P? S.A.P stands for student assistance program. It is a way to help students who are having problems that impact school. It is here to help you access school and community services.

Problems and Signs Withdrawing from family Expressing feelings about suicide Depressed Defying authority, both at home an school Acting aggressively Sudden drop in grades Experimenting with drugs and/or alcohol Recent Loss Divorce Eating disorders Truancy and dropout Other traumatic events

Who are the members of the SAP TEAM? Counselors, teachers, staff, and administration School Nurse School Psychologist Drug and Alcohol Representative Mental Health Representative Probation Officer

Who can make a referral? School staff Parent or Guardian Friends Administration Self

How do I fill out a referral and what do I do with it? Write a note! Put your name and the name of the person you are concerned about. Give a brief description of your concern. Get a form from the guidance office or SAP member.

What happens if a referral is made? 1. Information is collected from various people who are involved with the student. 2. Parents are contacted for permission if necessary. 3. An interview takes place between the student and a SAP team member. 4. Parents are contacted to discuss possible solutions. 5. Students are monitored.

Will everyone know my business? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you don’t tell anyone anything. Records can be locked conversations can’t. SAP records are confidential.
