Reading, Writing, Speaking How much time – 1 or 2 meetings per week plus Research and writing on your own time Competitions – We compete in the SJDL at the Varsity and JV level - Wednesdays - Dec, Jan, Feb 2:30-6:00 at Cherokee High School Other competitions may be added.
Debate Team Positions Affirmative Teams Negative Teams Varsity and JV Researchers Analysts
What happens in a debate? The affirmative team argues that there is a horrible problem somewhere related to the national debate topic. The affirmative argues that this problem is caused by our current policies or lack of a policy The affirmative argues that they have a plan that will fix the problem.
What happens in debate? The negative team argues there’s no problem. Or maybe there is a problem but the affirmatives team won’t fix it or it will cause problems that are worse than the original.
It all comes down to evidence. We don’t believe you! You’re a high school student!
