Agenda Provide overview of CENIC and NLR’s Optical Networks. Define the tools and processes used to support these networks. Identify some of the challenges in supporting large optical networks.

CENIC Optical Backbone DWDM Long Haul systems Supports up to 80 channels in C-Band Utilizes Cisco and ONS platforms Supports CalREN Multi- tiered routed backbone Provides dedicated lambdas for researchers

National Lambda Rail DWDM Long Haul / Extended Long Haul systems Utilizes Cisco 15808/15454 Platforms Provides dedicated 10GE/OC192 P2P circuits

Network Management Systems Individual NE provisioning tools –Cisco Transport Controller (CTC) provisioning/troubleshooting –Cisco Wavelength Director (CWD) provisioning/troubleshooting Centralized NMS. Overview of all NE’s in the topology, across multiple spans in the network. –CTM - Cisco Transport Manager Inventory Management Fault Management Performance Management Configuration Management
