APES 9/28 & 9/29 Log in to a computer and prepare for a warm-up!

Warm-Up 9/28 & 9/29 Explain it to me like I’m 5: What is soil salinization? Why is it bad for humans in the long run? Riverside, California!

Learning Targets I can design and carry out a valid experiment to test the effect of salinity on seed germination Manipulated, Responding, and Controlled variables Experimental Control/Standard I can correctly do math problems without a calculator!

Soil Salinization Lab 1.Compare procedures and data tables as a group. 2.Decide on the perfect ones! Your group will only turn in one lab report. 3.Proceed with your experiment (Set up? Data collection? Checking on seeds and giving them more time?) 4.Ignore the last page of the handout. See lab report requirements on the next slide. Your lab will be due as one shared Google doc on Sunday at noon.

Lab Report Requirements 1.Testable Question including MV and RV 2.Hypothesis 3.Procedure detailed enough that I could do it without help 4.Data table 5.Graphical representation of effect of soil salinity on seed germination (bar, line- whatever you like) 6.CLEVR conclusion 1.Claim = what was your hypothesis? Was it correct? 2.Evidence = at least 2 pieces of data to support your claim 3.Reasoning = why did your data turn out this way? (i.e. why would certain salinities affect seed germination in the way they did?)

Chapter 2 Reading Assignment For credit, you MUST do the assignment from my website. Due date: this Friday, 10/2 (Blue) and Monday, 10/5 (gold) There will be an open-note reading quiz on the due date.

Get out your Planners! 9/30: Last day for test corrections/retakes 10/2 & 5: Ch. 2 Reading Assignment due; bring in 2L bottle 10/4: Lab due at noon 10/6 & 7: Chapter 2 Quiz on science, math review concepts

APES Math Review Read each section and work through the packet No calculators! You only have to do the last 2 graphing ones (last page) You will be given work time all 3 class periods this week for the packet and/or the Chapter 2 Reading Guide.
